Author's Bio

Ralph F. Couey was born in 1955 in Paris, Tennessee, son of a career minister. He grew up in Independence, Missouri where he graduated high school in 1973. He attended college, but could not decide on a career path, so he joined the Navy in 1980 where he served for ten years. He left the service in 1990 as a Chief Petty Officer in order to spend more time with his family.   Ralph went back to school while working for Caterpillar in Boonville, Missouri and graduated in 2000 from Columbia College with a degree in Political Science. In 2004, he joined the U.S. Intelligence Community as a counter-drug analyst. During this stretch, he began writing columns for the Johnstown (PA) Tribune Democrat and the Somerset (PA) Daily American. He was also a contributor for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and his work was picked up by other newspapers across the country. He wrote over 150 columns during this time before transferring to another agency in Washington DC, where he spent five years as a counter-terror analyst, retiring in 2016. Ralph is an enthusiastic day hiker, having done about 200 miles of the Appalachian Trail through Virginia and Maryland. He enjoys motorcycling, and both activities have provided inspirational fodder for his writing. He is married to the former Cheryl Yanamura of Pearl City, Hawaii, a very highly regarded Operating Room Registered Nurse. They have a son and three daughters, and nine grandchildren. Cheryl is currently a travel nurse and the two are enjoying life hop-scotching across the country every three months or so. Ralph still enjoys writing, having published his first novel, Tales of Barely, Missouri available on Amazon.com.
